Facebook tied up with electoral office in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand ahead of the assembly elections to run a voter enrollment drive, for the first time in India.
With Facebook having a user base of about 155 million in India, the ‘Register to vote’ button is intended to empower people in these five states, to practice their vote in the upcoming elections. From 6th to 9th October, The Facebook users in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand who are 18 years or more will get an update in their News Feed to enlist to vote. By Clicking on “Register Now”, individuals will be taken/directed to the National Voters’ Services Portal which will direct them through the enlistment procedure.

The Chief Electoral officer of Punjab said that this drive has been jointly arranged by CEO office and Facebook India to reach potential young voters who are present on Facebook.
This feature will be available in Punjab from 6th October, 7th October in Manipur. Facebook users in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh can access this from 8th October and for users in Goa the feature will be active from 9th October.
