Delhi Government starts ration distribution in fair price shops through e-PoS device

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has begun distribution of ration to beneficiaries through the e-Point of Sale (e-PoS) devices in all 2254 fair price shops, Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain said here on Monday.

The new system will have a robust mechanism for verification of beneficiaries through the Aadhar authentication, having features to monitor transactions online. The e-Pos Devices have also been integrated with electronic weighing machine to ensure correct weight to the beneficiaries The Minister, said in a statement.

Mr Hussain also said that after the successful completion of the test trial of operation of the e- PoS during the month of January, the Government may consider a complete roll out from the month of February.

He said that in this system, distribution of 8% of the total card holders will be allowed off line in order to provide ease to the beneficiaries whose Aadhar authentication either fails or who still do not possess Aadhar cards.

Mr Hussain said that the system will also provide portability under which a ration card holder can avail ration from any shop across Delhi. However, for availing this facility, the Biometric data of the beneficiaries must match the official record.

He said that considering issues of non-existing card holders, the Government had decided in August 2017 to distribute ration online through e-PoS devices.

The Minister also informed that the Government is distributing Specified Food Articles (SFA) to the tune of 3.75 lakh quintals to 72.78 lakhs beneficiaries per month under Targeted Public Distribution System as per National Food Security Act 2013.

The Minister announced the Department’s proposal to increase the margin money for Fair Price Shop Owners from Rs 70 per quintal to Rs 200 per quintal,(from 70 paisa per kg to Rs two per kg) which is under active consideration of the Government.
