Idea Cellular to expand its 4G services to 20 circles


Idea Cellular India’s third largest telecom operator recently announced that it will be expanding its 4G services to nine more circles .By doing this by March next year Idea will take its wireless broadband footprint to 20 circles.

The telecom operator which is led by Aditya Birla Group has plans to add 57,000 sites this year to enable the launch of 4G in circles of UP East, UP West, Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Mumbai, West Bengal, Assam and also newly acquired spectrum of Jammu and Kashmir. The numbers of sites for the planned for the same are close to 57,000.

Himanshu Kapania, managing director, Idea Cellular gave a statement that as far as Idea’s 4G footprint is concerned, by the end of this year; they will cover their key 20 circles which contribute towards almost 94% of the company revenue and 90% of industry revenue.

He also added “I am confident that our stable and reliable operational execution will keep us ahead of the curve as we move into the next phase of telecom industry revolution driven by Digital,”

As of now the wireless broadband network of Ides expands across 17 circles. Holistically they plan to achieve a network which is spread around 250,000 sites and also optical fibre network of 1.41 lakh km in this financial year.

To beat the competition from newly launched Jio Idea expects to launch its Idea branded games in the present quarter and also ‘Idea Movies & Music Services’ soon. Idea also discussed in the next fiscal year it will be introducing digital magazines and newspaper subscription, live TV, Voice over IP services and audio and video chat.
