Indian mobile manufacturer Micromax Informatics has joined hands with ride-sharing application Uber to offer the in-built app in close to 100 million of its smartphones for next three years.
The Uber application will be accessible for all new Micromax users and over time, planned upgrades will be made accessible to existing users, one of India’s top smartphone organizations said in a statement.
“This partnership will help Uber unlock growth across the huge user base of Micromax in India and also help our consumers get the best experience. Our focus will be on building native experiences,” said Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax Informatics in the statement.
Micromax had earlier launched AROUND, an application that aggregates information from different well known applications across categories including food, news and weather, and publishes it in a native environment on the gadget.
This partnership will link Micromax users’ account to the AROUND platform and the user will have both on-gadget native integration through in-house services including AROUND-and factory loading of the Uber application on Micromax devices.
“This will introduce ride-sharing, and the benefits it brings to riders, drivers and cities, to a new generation of smartphone users in India,” said president for business at Uber APAC, Eric Alexander.
