Is Apple secretly preparing a Tablet "Cocktail" ?

For a company that generates ripples in the market and is famous for its innovative league of products like iPhone, Macbook Air and has withstood stringent competition all around the Globe; a new orientation like a Tablet is most likely to be a subject of hot discussion.

Since it is not only a pragmatic threat to Biggies like Microsoft , HP but also would throw in a huge competition to other Vendors such as Intel, Nvidia depending on the ensemble that Apple would cast on its product.

The buzz was ripe and sprouted right out from OEMs in China. However, the recent updates have cemented the rumors and are pointing towards the launch of an Apple tablet soon.

According to the latest report, Apple is going to have a final design ready in September and the device would then be announced for a November launch. It is assumed that the Apple Tablet PC will cost around a whopping $699 to $799. To justify the high price tag, the 10” device would be able to, among other things, play high-definition video. The source says the device's video quality "is better than the average movie experience."

Also, the device may resemble a large iPod Touch with a 10-inch diagonal screen, lacks a keyboard, packs USB, FireWire ports and runs Mac OS X along with a variety of multimedia goodies.

An Apple tablet could be a media centric device

Meanwhile, the company has not announced any details or even the screen size of the future device. But, it is not clear that how this gadget will set itself apart from Apple's multimedia-savvy product line, for example iPhone and iPod Touch. Keeping the company's past moves in close consideration, analysts are betting that Apple's tablet will be a media-centric device and will shake the publishing industry.

Already, Apple is prepared to blow Amazon and other e-book makers from its one key weapon, which is iTunes. With more than 6 billion songs, the iTunes Store has flipped the music industry upside-down. Further, with more than 1.5 bn download from its app store, Apple has yet to enter the e-book market and making downloads for books as easy as music.

Last month, there was also a rumor that the Apple tablet would launch with a secret software project codenamed Cocktail, which is said to be a development in conjunction with the major music labels and would be called as "a new type of interactive album". The new project will combine photos, lyrics sheets, video clips and liner notes, all gathered into an interactive booklet.

The next question that strikes is what will be the operating system for Apple tablet? Will Apple come up with a netbook iteration of its Mac OSX or it will look for one from the already existing crowd?

The processor is also a question with Apple tablet. As per certain reports, it has endorsed several Atom processors for its tablet. Also, the name of the Apple Tablet is interesting to find out, whether it can be MacBook Mini or iPad, yet to be framed by the company.

At the end, it can be concluded that Apple tablet will be a 10” music centric device, competitor for Amazon book e-reader and may possess comparable speed and performance.
