Google Plus - Would it redefine the Enterprise Social Network?
Its almost a decade when “Web 2.0” term came into existence and furnished entirely a new definition and identity for Web. Around 1999, the term was coined and conferred the idea of interactive media platforms thus giving birth to terms like social media networking sites, blogs, mash ups and all other jazz including web applications.
However, it was Mark Zuckerberg’s thought that ushered the real revolution and made Social media a power to reckon. Facebook transformed the whole notion; the impact was so huge that even Enterprises started feeling the heat and need of presence on social networks. The so called competition could not even match the success and impact that Facebook has spelled.
Though, it was always believed that Facebook can be challenged by Google only; the speculations were not very concrete since Social media has always been a dark side for search giant. Despite its path breaking products, Google has always missed the success when it comes to launching a social media platform. However, Google Plus has redefined the entire spectrum once again and has put Google on the victorious side.
Before going ahead, let us understand what Google Plus is actually? Google Plus is a social media project and is subtly launched by the search giant very recently. It is being considered as an extension to Google as a whole, cited many sources. The positive reviews about the project, which is currently invitation limited has spelled it for Google, which was missing from a long time now. It encompasses all what people have been awaiting so far on the social media platforms with its features including Circles, Hangouts, Huddle and Sparks.
Social network: A must have for Enterprises?
Facebook undoubtedly offered the best solutions till date on Social media front however, the loopholes existed. It elevated the excitement for enterprises (lets be more specific, consumer oriented enterprises) to such a point that Social Media evolved as an integral part of any Marketing and Advertising mix; though adoption for Business focused enterprises remained limited.
Keeping aside Gartner’s predictions according to which effectiveness of Social Media on enterprise sector is entirely a different landscape. It further predicts that penetration of Social media for enterprise segment is in budding stage and the maturity ratios are even lower. However, the launch of Google Plus and its initial positive reviews narrate an entirely different story. It is being contemplated that Google Plus will eventually transform to a Business focused platform. Google Plus and Enterprise: Will these collaborate?
The early adoption would be gradual but is expected to boom in the later stage. It is being foreseen that the public profiles on Google Plus will be tightly integrated with search engine results thus attracting more users and traffic to the page; in stark contradiction to Facebook and Twitter.
The success and adoption ratio will most likely be based on how Google Plus shapes up and how open it would be for developers. The ecosystem for developers seems to be quite extensive here undoubtedly and the App Marketplace only will decide the fate of Google Plus among enterprises.
