Will Sony's entry in smartphone arena gain accolades?
In a bid to catch up with booming smartphone industry, Sony Corp. has agreed to buy out Sony Ericsson mobile phone joint venture for 1.05 billion euro ($1.45 billion). For this, the Japanese consumer electronics giant is ending its 10-year agreement with network-equipment provider Ericsson, sources informed.

The latest transaction will offer Sony an opportunity to rapidly integrate smartphones into its broad array of network-connected devices including tablets, televisions and personal computers.

A question arises here, is it too late for Sony to enter smartphone market?

It is expected that Sony’s smartphones will take another 12 to 18 month to reach to its users. The time Sony will introduce its own smartphone range; Apple would be coming out with next powerful generation of iPhone. And other smartphone makers may ship " Jelly Beans” powered handsets. Jelly Beans is the next version of Android operating system.

Actually, a lot depends on how rapidly Sony will bring out its smartphone range for users. Execution is the key word and Sony will have to move faster than the typical 15 to 20 months product cycle, as its rivals are continuing to solidify their own market positions.

Although, it is little late for Sony to enter smartphone game, but still there are some factors which can help Sony to make its smartphone business successful.

Users already have numerous smartphones available in the market and if customers need to think of some alternative, it has to be innovative. For this, Sony needs to just focus on delivering excellent services and enhanced user’s experience that is distinct from the competition and provides a compelling case for choosing Sony’s smartphones.

Reviewers believe, the use of Sony's PlayStation brand is a significant option for Sony’s smartphones. In order to make Sony smartphones more user friendly, Sony will have to directly link the PlayStation to its phones.

Also, the company will have to improve its relationship with the carriers.

It is important to note that there is one key to the handset business's revival is the use of Sony's wealth of content, including a significant library of video, music and video games. So, Sony must have to work on these areas if it stands any chance against the dominance of other smartphone makers.
