Will iPad3 find any takers in India?

Apple’s third generation of iPad, which has largely got mixed reviews since its launch in March, has finally reached India. Besides India, Apple has launched iPad3 in countries including Colombia, Estonia, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand. .

To rewind: In September 2011, Apple’s Chief Executive Tim Cook had introduced the third generation of iPad sporting a 9.7-inch 'retina display' with 2047 x 1536 pixels. It is powered with A5X, a processor with two CPU cores and four GPU cores. In addition, Apple has adapted 4G on its iPad.

The new iPad Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 4G models will be available in black or white color in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB options in India.

The 16GB, 32 GB and 64 GB Wi-Fi only models will be priced at Rs 30,500, Rs 36,500 and Rs 42,500 respectively. For Wi-Fi with 4G models, Indians have to pay Rs 38,900, Rs 44,900 and Rs 50,900 for 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB models respectively.

At Rs 42,500, the iPad 3 is indeed the costliest tablet in India.

But questions arise here; does the third generation iPad have enough oomph to justify the price in India? And will it be successful over the masses of Android users in the country?

Market watchers added, if any user has passed on the iPad 2 to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab or the Asus Transformer, then the new iPad 3 will certainly not going to tickle your fancy.  Other viable options available on the market are Asus Transformer Prime and numerous low-cost Android powered tablets in India.

Besides these available options, users can also expect Microsoft’s Windows 8 to make some noise, later this year.

Additionally, there are rumors of Google and Nokia releasing its own tablet as well. So wait out a few months and the picture the clearer picture.

Let’s see whether Indian users will welcome it or hesitate to buy iPad 3 because of its high price. Tell then, stay tuned.
