What can save RIM and BlackBerry Brand?

Everybody knows, RIM is rapidly losing its ground in the smartphone business, raising high speculations that the popular BlackBerry maker may soon get acquired by some other biggie of the tech industry. According to latest chunk of information, RIM’s shares have dipped more than 50 percent this year.

Reliable sources informed, RIM is facing tough competition from other mobile device makers like Apple and Google’s Android powered devices.

At this crucial time, RIM should consider “all opportunities” to turn things around and steady its tumbling market share. Some significant things that RIM need to consider this time is as following:

1. Focus: Focus is the utmost requirement that every company. It is reported, earlier this year a senior RIM executive admitted that he wasn’t even sure how many devices including smartphones and tablets, RIM was producing at that time.

If RIM wants to really retain its leading position, it must move quickly against its innovative competitors.

2. Pull the plug on PlatBook Tablet: RIM launched PlayBook tablet in a hope to take on Apple’s iPad. However, it failed to make any mark in tech industry. In reality, the PlayBook tablet is a dud. Stats revealed, RIM is able to sold just over a million of the tablet since its launch over a year ago, while Apple sold over 15 million iPads only in a quarter. To the reader’s surprise, Apple had sold three million iPads in the first weekend it was launched.

Some Analysts believe; RIM should discontinue its PlayBook Tablet. The company should conserve and streamline its resources, if it really wants to survive for some more time.

3. SDKs: End users always crave for applications, whether those are personal or work-related; for entertainment or for productivity enhancement. Apple’s enormous success was not only because of being first in the market but also because of the efforts that it put towards integrating plenty of applications. Even, Google is following the same path.

RIM, on the other hand, has always battled here. Its directory of smartphone apps is very thin. The only ray of hope that can survive RIM is the BlackBerry Enterprise Application Middleware (BEAM), which is presently in beta version. It can boost the enterprise existing corporate client/server applications to BlackBerry platforms.

4. Partnership: Microsoft made a bold move by buying Skype. Although RIM’s BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) has been a booming affaire but it only works among BlackBerry users. RIM could do wonders by opening up BBM and working with companies like Microsoft and others on a universal way to facilitate communication.

If RIM firmly focuses on these areas, then no one can stop it to inprove its position in mobile world.
