Quest Acquisition: A big opportunity for Dell in India Intending to branch out beyond its weakening personal computer business, the tech giant Dell is planning to buy enterprise management software maker Quest Software. The deal will close in US $2.4 billion that too in cash. Dell’s latest $2.4 billion deal acquisition can turn out to be a golden opportunity for Dell in India market as Quest Software possesses a strong customer-base in the country. Also, the software maker has an aggressive strategy in place for Indian market. Market experts believe, Quest Software also looks at India as a significant market. Established in 1987, the global software company Quest Software offers a broad and deep selection of products and services to Indian users. In addition to proficiency in security management as well as in end user access management, Quest also has gained a measure of attention for its virtualization initiative as well. It is found, there is a long list of global and India-based clients associated with Quest Software. Some significant clients are National Informatics Centre (NIC), Sasken, ISRO, Bank of India, Indian Bank, Union Bank, AP Corp, Axis Bank, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), SAIL and ONGC. Besides these major Indian clients, Quest Softaware also has some global clients including RIM and a fashion and affordable luxury retailer, Macy's. With its latest acquisition, Dell is planning to include Quest’s software solutions with its services and enterprise solutions. Now, it can offer a better and more valuable experience to its customers. Quest’s VP Sales, Worldwide Data Protection, Matt Vitale has recently shared his views in an interview on company’s expectations and strategy for India. He stated, India is certainly in the top three or four markets across Asia. They have a very robust business in India. The company continues to investing capital in India. China, Australia, Southeast Asia, Korea, and India right now are all roughly the same size businesses for Quest Software. The addition of Quest will enable Dell to deliver more competitive server, storage, networking and end user computing solutions and services to customers, ultimately helping the company to enhance its services for its customers. Quest's technology would further improve Dell’s security and data protections offerings, along with other services aimed at business customers. It is expected that the latest deal between Dell and Quest will close later this year. Analysts believe, Dell needs to expand its software portfolio to make the latest acquisition, successful. Dell already has launched plans to offer desktop virtualization running on Dell servers in the enterprise data center as well as Desktone's end user virtualization in the cloud.
