In the current recessionary period, the government has reached out a helping hand for the IT firms.
Government of India has exempted IT/ITeS and software establishments from the provisions of Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act 1946 (Central Act 20 of 1946) for two years.
These labour laws are related to the classifying workers, their working hours and shifts, the wages payable, besides other archaic rules on leave and attendance.
According to the Infosys Technologies, one of the largest Indian IT companies, has antiquated labour regulations, which do not fit the requirement of the knowledge-based industry. These reforms are necessary for the country and across industries as India do not want inspector raj in the country, the company added.
