Waiting for Fusion to arrive then gear up, AMD has initiated the first step towards the launch of CPU and APU designs.

The chip rival, AMD is expected to launch first details of Fusion chips soon, namely Bulldozer and Bobcat. Demoed last year, Bulldozer is considered fit for high performing desktops and server markets; Bobcat is aimed at low power notebooks and small form factor desktop PCs. The processors are expected to make way to market by 2011.

AMD has worked hard on the designs and has brought in significant changes to the processors posing challenge to rival, Intel.

Elucidating the details, AMD cited that Bulldozer-based CPUs are designed on 32nm SOI process technology to redefine the multithreaded computing. Working on stages including Fetch and Decode, AMD expects to lower the power consumption drastically and is indeed capable of dynamically switching between shared and dedicated components to boost computing performance.  

AMD is claiming to offer better performance against Intel processors; but this remains to be judged later on. Capable of working with AM2 and AM3 motherboards, Bulldozer is non-compatible with AM3+ motherboards.

Further, the first product to come running on Bulldozer core called Interlagos is expected to ship by next year. On the other hand, Bobcat would be an answer to power hungry desktop PCs. The first processor running on Bobcat, Ontario would use two Bobcat cores and is expected to arrive by 2011.
