HP has put a halt on Dell’s stride to become a storage juggernaut by topping Dell’s offer to buy 3PAR. According to the recent reports, HP has also put its candidature forward to buy 3PAR, a virtualized storage systems vendor.

Dell had offered $1.15 billion for the acquisition earlier; surpassing which HP has placed forward an offer for $1.6 billion in cash. The offer has been made in writing to the CEO of the company, cited insiders.

The offer is quite lucrative and is likely to force 3PAR’s members reconsidering merger agreement with Dell. However, board members are supporting HP’s deal and peg it as a better fit since former is a maker of storage servers.

Meanwhile, Dell is on the roads to gain grounds in server and IT markets and started the journey with Perot’s acquisition. On the other hand, HP is continuing with the acquisitions in products and services segment to strengthen its portfolio. But, now both the biggies are vying virtualization segment and storage and 3PAR seems to be the target.
