Intel and Nokia are taking their relationship a step further after MeeGo. The companies are jointly working on a technology to build 3D user interfaces for mobile devices.

The teams from both the companies would explore technologies in 3D segment. These are geared towards making interaction between users and mobile devices more engaging. 3D technologies have the potential to make experience richer with mobile technologies.

Elucidating on the possible extensions, scientists from companies pegged that people would be able to see a 3D hologram of the person being talked to and would kick engagement to a higher level. The development is likely to revolve around MeeGo open source software.

Meanwhile, MeeGo is a joint effort by Intel and Nokia based on open source;  capable of running across slew of devices including smartphones, netbooks, tablet computers, TVs, and in-vehicle infotainment systems.

Built on Qt development environment, 3D apps would be available via Nokia's Ovi Store and Intel's AppUp Center.
