Trend Labs researchers were alerted to the discovery of spammed messages that are doing the rounds which on clicking the Order Now Button in the message redirects to the users to the site that says that the offer is no longer available. February has already begun and Valentine’s Day, the most awaited occasion for the love buddies, is just round the corner. Lover’s don’t want to lose a single chance to woo their beloved’s and thereby visit the best gift shops/gift websites to pick the best possible gift’s or cards. Here come the spammers and their malicious activities. It is only the first week of the so-called “love month” but they have already seen spam messages doing the round and targeting people who flock to websites that advertise gifts they can give to their loved ones. The spam message highlighted only be seen if you highlight the entire message. The message is intended to gather email addresses by making the user suspicious of the expired page which will cause them to unsubscribe. Users should never unsubscribe from anything that they didn’t subscribe for in the first place. Thus, by doing this the user will hand it over there email address to the spammers and it’s possible that this may be used to harvest email addresses for later Valentine’s Day-related attacks. Last Year too Trend Micro researchers alerted to the discovery of spammed messages that were doing the rounds on the pretext of Valentine’s Day which contained a Link that lead to a fake gift card promotion According to Mr. Amit Nath Country Manager India and SAARC Trend Micro, spammed messages come in many forms and with varying payloads, some redirect users to sites that sell anything and everything under the sun, most especially pharmaceutical and replica items; some lead to links to malicious or malware-ridden sites; some lead to sites that advertise bogus promotions; and some carry malware as attachments. That is why users should always be wary of opening email messages, particularly those that come from unknown sources. There are various ways through which spammers attack the internet. Mr. Amit Nath Country Manager Trend Micro India and SAARC would be able to inform and educate internet users on various kinds of threats, elaborate on how they attack websites and how by using various security tools like Trend Micro Smart Protection Network , they can make their internet usage experience safe.
