Usually, companies do not celebrate the demise of its former flagship products, however Microsoft is quite different in that as they are happily shouting the "good riddance" to its former browser IE6. As per the cited sources, company announced that "It’s time to pop up the champagne, according to latest data, IE6 usage in the US has now officially dropped below by 1 percent”.
Microsoft’s product IE6 was launched in 2011. Since long time, web users have complained about IE6 that it is hindering the web progress because of its incompatibility with latest web technologies. However, in last few years, big internet properties like Facebook and YouTube have already quitted the support with this browser and encouraged users to switch to latest available substitutes like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and recent versions of Internet Explorer including IE8 & IE9.
As per the Microsoft’s IE6 Countdown website, in December 2011 only 7.7 percent of global internet users were using IE6 which 6 percent down as compared to the year before.
While in the US, IE6 usage has been dropped to 0.9 percent, more than 25.2 percent web users of china still using this phased out browser in 2011. Internet Explorer 6 usage in Japan, South Korea, India, and Vietnam was also high at 5.9, 7.2, 5.4, and 5.5 percent respectively.
