According to latest reports, Apple Inc, the popular iPhone maker will release a $2,000 tablet next year, which will fit the company''s history of introducing luxury in the technology market. The retail price of Apple’s lowest-priced MacBook notebook is $1,000; therefore sources estimate that an OLED-based tablet would cost Apple between $1,200 and $1,700 to make. Thus, the retail price of the device would be around $2,000.
Earlier, it was reported that the company will introduce its tablet PC in the first half or as early as February, 2010.
According to channel insiders, Apple will introduce a 9.7” tablet featuring an OLED screen, which will be available in the second half of 2010. In addition, it is also reported that Apple will launch two tablets, one having a 10.6” TFT display and the second with OLED screen. In contrast, various analysts denied the reports of using OLED screen by Apple.
It seems that Apple would use an iPhone-type two-stage launch for its tablet PC in which, the company first introduces the hardware, so that developers can create applications or tweak existing software.
