Last month, Advanced Micro Devices, California-based Semiconductor Company had introduced its highly anticipated, next-generation six-core Opteron 2400 series of processors, codenamed Istanbul. The new processors designed to deliver increased performance and energy efficiency, which were featured with new technologies, enabling business users to upgrade their current Opteron-based servers.
Follwing the league, Hewlett-Packard has launched its new xw9400 professional workstations, designed on the six-core Opteron 2400 series of processors, becoming the first PC vendor to integrate them in a line of professional workstations. According to the company, these new high-performance workstations have been designed to accommodate up to 2 Opteron 2400-series CPUs, making up for a total of 12 working cores, each of them said to be capable of delivering 34 percent more performance per watt than previous-generation quad-core chips. From which, customers will take advantage of increased interconnect rates of 4.8GT/s, up from 2GT/s. Also, these new workstations, registered as an EPEAT Gold product, have been featured with the ATI FirePro V7750 GPUs for workstations and are equipped with 80 PLUS power supply units.
The system is available with a starting price tag of $1,899.
