International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), the IT giant has announced a new cloud computing service, called "Smart Analytics Cloud,” to compete with companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Salesforce Inc.
According to the company, the new cloud service will be biggest cloud service till date and it would be first to get adopted internally. It will permit users to run software and store information in remote, large-scale data centers, which will be available over the net, and saves their precious space and cost.
The new service can hold more than a petabyte of data and will include business intelligence services, Cognos and mainframes.
Various analysts suggest that the Big Blue has not updated its cloud offerings to compete in the cloud industry.
According to Gartner, in 2009, the cloud industry will touch sales of about $3.4 billion. It is also reported that the interest of various IT giants have picked up after Amazon’s entry in the Cloud Computing services, three years ago.
