Research In Motion, Canada based smartphone maker has announced a new technology that will allow users to make voice calls via Wi-Fi using its BlackBerry devices.
The new software, called as BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5 (MVS 5), will be available before the summer. Meanwhile, the company has not released the pricing of the services.
The new service will allow calls from BlackBerry devices in Wi-Fi hot spots would be routed via corportae PBX in the headquarters of the caller's company and then on to a receiver located anywhere in the world. Call charges will be negotiated according to the carrier.
Further, the company has also unveiled the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, its smallest model to date with a traditional keypad. Weighing just 93 g, the device features a 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and a large HD screen.
The device also features an optical trackpad for navigation and supports 32 Gb external memory through microSD/SDHD memory card slot.
