Intended to catch-up with the flourishing smartphone market, Amazon is now all set to foray smartphone market. If reports are to be believed, Amazon’s new smartphone will fight with both Apple’s iPhone and all other devices that run on Google’s Android operating system.
Considering there is no official word to back up this story, Amazon would be developing Android devices. Moreover, sources also claimed that the new devices would be developed by a hardware firm Foxconn. It is important to note that Foxxcon is also manufacturing iPhones for Apple.
For its latest initiative, Amazon is rumored to acquire patent rights that would cover wireless technology which will not cause Amazon any patent infringements in future.
Market watchers believe, if Amazon succeeds to make this device, it is likely to give them a wide range of hardware including e-books, tablets and smartphones to make money and eventually support their other projects like digital books, songs and movies.
It is worth noticing, the smartphone market is already filled with numerous well-established competitors. According to latest stats, market leader Samsung shipped 42.2 million smartphones worldwide in the first quarter of 2012, followed by 35.1 million smartphones. These big players were followed at a distance by Nokia and Research In Motion.
However, nothing can be said for now as Amazon has not said anything officially. So, stay tuned to get more information on it.
