Android is not ready for multi-core processors: Intel
Added On:6/12/2012 2:09:00 PM

Although, the desktop and laptop chipmaker Intel has proved its worth in chip making, but it is yet to make name for itself in the smartphone business. However, Intel is definitely interested in convincing smartphones and tablet makers with its recent announcement that the Medfield Atom processor is a better choice for upcoming mobile devices.

According to Mike Bell, General Manager of Intel's Mobile and Communications Group, Android just isn't ready for multi-core CPUs.

While majority of ARM-based vendors are focusing on dual- and quad-core processors, the chip maker Intel has just forayed the Android market with its single-core Medfield Atom processor.

Mike Bell has reportedly claimed that Google’s Android is not ready for multi-core processors at all.  Even, the latest version of Android, 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) experiences problems with threading that limits the benefits of dual core processors.

Sources familiar with the matter informed our team, test reports of internal testing had shown that multi-core chips sometimes run slower than single-core models.

Besides Mike Bell, even Nokia's CEO, Stephen Elop, has stated that dual and quad-core processors on mobile phones waste battery more than anything else.
