In a bid to improve the capability and performance of its data center consolidation system, Cisco has extended its Unified Computing System(UCS) networking portfolio.
Cisco has added various elements to its UCS portfolio, which include a chassis I/O module, a virtual interface card, fabric interconnects and a revamped UCS management software. The extensions will deal with the situations IT managers face while taking up virtualization, controlling costs, and scaling to fulfill their growing business demands.
UCS increases the server performance eightfold and effectively tackles the traffic growth that strains a company's network and IT infrastructure. UCS' impetus recently made Cisco the third leading blade server vendor worldwide.
The networking extensions for UCS are an added benefit to the company.
Cisco’s updated UCS Manager Software not only manages all system configuration and operations for UCS, but also backs VMware vCenter virtualization management to facilitate IT managers to organize, provision and configure the virtualized environment across branch offices and data centers.
Cisco, at present, claims to have approximately 5,400 UCS customers and is adding around a 1,000 each quarter.
