Cisco discontinues its business tablet, Cius

The networking giant, Cisco has reportedly announced that the company will gradually discontinue its Cius tablet. If reports are to be believed, Cisco has ceased all investment in its Cius tablet and will not release any enhancements to the current Cius tablet attributes.

According to a blog post made by OJ Winge, Senior Vice President of Cisco's TelePresence, Cisco will discontinue investment and development of the tablet, which they have reviewed three months back.

To Rewind; powered with Intel Atom Processor, the seven-inch touchscreen tablet was released by Cisco last year. Cisco has launched its Cius tablet specifically for the enterprise segment.

Cisco will now "double down" on its latest software offerings including Jabber and WebEx products for more popular tablets and smartphones supporting a variety of operating systems including Android, BlackBerry OS, iOS etc.

However, Cisco will continue supplying Cius in limited numbers to those with specific needs.

Analysts believe, the latest trend of BYOD (bring Your Own Device) is forcing Cisco to take this bold step. Latest stats revealed, nearly 95 percent of organizations allow their employees to carry their own devices to work, and over 35 percent organizations fully support their employee-owned devices. Hence, the company concluded that it makes little sense in continuing the Cius venture.
