According to a latest report, Microsoft India has got a reprieve from the Delhi High Court. If reports are to be believed, Delhi High Court has quashed all legal proceedings against Microsoft India after the company was exempted by a trial court in a similar case for hosting objectionable content online.
It is reportedly said that Microsoft India is the only company, out of 21 websites, against whom both criminal and civil proceedings were pending in the capital's High Court and trial court, now stand quashed.
To rewind: Earlier in December, Delhi High Court had ordered 21 websites including Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Youtube to remove all derogatory content from their websites. Among these, 12 websites are of companies based outside India.
It is reportedly said that Justice Suresh Kait has set aside the trial court's order for initiating criminal proceedings against Microsoft India, for lack of any evidence. In addition, the HC also gave the complainant Vinay Rai liberty to file a fresh complaint if he finds any credible piece of evidence against Microsoft later.
It is worth noticing that the latest move came when Microsoft India has approached the high court, challenging the trial court's in order to initiate criminal proceedings against the company for hosting "obscene and disparaging content" on its website.
