Intending to branch out beyond the weakening personal computer business, the tech giant Dell is planning to buy enterprise management software maker Quest Software. If reports are to be believed, the deal will close in $2.4 billion that too in cash.
Sources informed, Dell had sparked a bidding war in June when it offered $25.50 per share to Quest, outbidding Insight's initial offer of $23 per share in March.
John Swainson, President of Dell Software Group has shared his views on Dell's acquisition plans in a recent interview. He stated, the addition of Quest will enable the company to deliver more competitive server, storage, networking and end user computing solutions and services to customers, ultimately helping Dell to enhance its services for its customers.
He further added, Quest's technology would further improve Dell’s security and data protections offerings, along with other services aimed at business customers.
It is expected that the latest deal between Dell and Quest will close later this year.
Analysts added, the latest acquisition is supposed to be another big acquisition in the recent times. Earlier, Dell announced to buy Make Technologies followed by Wyse and Clerity software companies.
