Two tech giants EBay Inc and Wal-Mart have join hands to develop a new web search engine to better compete against Amazon.com Inc in the fast-growing e-commerce market.
Nowadays, more people like to shop online; they often end up at the top of a website typing in a product name. However, in case they do not find what they want, quickly they go to another website or opt for a physical store.
Insiders informed our team that the new search technology will focus on groups of related terms and phrases, people generally use during online shopping.
Presently, Amazon is on version 8.0 of search and EBay is at 2.0. Now, both the honchos are thinking, how they make this huge leap to 3.0.
Market reviewers suggests, the EBay Inc and Wal-Mart search engine project will take time as eBay's online marketplace has variable information from millions of listings that are described differently by each seller. On the other hand, Amazon generally starts with a catalog of items for sale, including strict product descriptions, which are easier to search.
Analysts further added, if eBay and Wal-Mart will improve search on their websites, it could eventually threaten Google Inc, the world's leading Internet search company.
