Fujifilm to bid good bye to low-cost camera market in India

Intending to improve revenue generation and increasing its focus on expensive cameras, Fujifilm has reportedly stated that will exit India's ultra low-cost (ULC) camera market. Low-cost cameras include models priced below Rs 4,000. If reports are to be believed, Fujifilm will say good bye to low-cost camera market within next three months. 

Post its latest move, Fujifilm’s price range will now commence from Rs 4,999 with AX500 and will go up to Rs 99,999 for X-Pro1.

Now, Fujifilm is expecting its revenue to grow by about 90 percent to Rs 190 crore in 2012. The revenue was Rs 100 crore last year.

According to Rohit Pandit, Executive Vice President at Fujifilm India, the company will stop selling the ultra low-cost models in India as they are less profitable and none of the competitors are present in this segment. Now, Fujifilm will focus more on strengthening the brand position. 

Presently, Fujifilm is importing all the models from Japan and China. It is reportedly said that the latest rupee depreciation has affected the margins of the ultra low-cost cameras. 

Pandit further added, Fujifilm had introduced low-cost C20 camera last year and this year, they have introduced C25 and L30 camera range. The company has already stopped importing of these models.
