A recent report has disclosed that Google continues to engulf interesting application developers. After announcing its plans to acquire online messaging firm Meebo yesterday, internet search giant Google has most recently acquired mobile application developer Quickoffice.
If reports are to be believed, Google is buying Quickoffice for working on documents running in Microsoft's programs for word processing, spreadsheets and presentations.
Trusted aides informed, Quickoffice has an established track record of enabling seamless interoperability with popular file formats.
Presently, more than 400 million devices are equipped with the Quickoffice app.
Market watchers believe, the latest acquisition will give Google a new weapon against its rivals. It is found, more people have started doing their work on smartphones and tablet computers. Quickoffice makes these mobile devices compatible with Microsoft Office even if the software suite is not installed on them.
Without disclosing financial terms of the acquisition, a spokesperson from Google has mentioned in a blog post that the company is intending to incorporate Quickoffice in its paid, Apps suite.
