Intending to gain more revenues with its services, the search engine Google is planning to make its free 'product search' service paid. If reports are to be believed, the new product discovery experience is expected to be named as Google Shopping.
Under the new service by Google, merchants and retailers are likely to pay for the listings of products.
Reliable sources informed, the internet company has already begun experimenting with some new commercial formats on Google.com which will make it easier for users to find and compare different products. The new initiative includes larger product images and the ability to refine a search by brand or product type.
It is reportedly said that the new formats would be labeled as "sponsored" and likely to be placed at the space currently occupied by AdWords.
According to Sameer Samat, Google Shopping Vice President (Product Management), Google is planning to transform Google Product Search to a purely commercial model built on Product Listing Ads. Further he added, the transition is likely to be completed by the fall.
Market watchers believe, Google’s latest initiative is a step to boost company's revenue along with offering a higher quality shopping experience to the customers.
