Amid few complaints regarding the quality and usability of the low-cost ''Aakash'' tablet PC, the Indian government is hoppy with user''s response to Aakash tablet. Now, goveronment is hopeful to bring out an upgraded version of the device, marked as ''Aakash-II'' by April, 2012.  

To rewind, Kapil Sibal had launched the world''s cheapest tablet, Aakash, last year.  Aakash which costs US$ 35 (about Rs 2,000) was launched as a part of the ''The National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technologies (NME-ICT)'' of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). 

It is found, the Aakash tablet, ever since it launched has been facing both appreciation and criticism.

Kapil Sibal, Human Resource & Development Minister in India who has been the responsible force behind the entire project has stated, in order to fulfill  huge tablet demand, several firms are required to manufacture Aakash. Based on the customer feedback, the government is trying to enhance specifications in Aalash II.

It is expected; the new Aakash-II tablet will fill the gaps left open by its predecessor - the Aakash tablet; by offering a better, and a faster processor. 

It is important to note that Aakash is a feature rich tablet equipped with all requisite attributes of a high-end tablet. The budget tablet is packed with a cellular modem and SIM. Spotted in two versions, the tablet is powered by Android platform, and support Wi-Fi connectivity for internet access and cloud storage. In addition, it supports 256 MB of RAM, a 32 GB expandable memory slot and two USB ports.

Till date, Datawind has delivered around 30,000 tablets and the rest 70,000 will also have the upgraded version of Aakash-II. 

Let''s hope to see upgraded Aakash tablet soon in the market.
