According to a latest update, the tech giant Hewlett-Packard has defeated Oracle in a bitter lawsuit over Oracle's decision to end support for HP's Itanium-based servers.
To rewind: Oracle decided to stop developing software to be used with HP’s Itanium-based processor last year. Oracle’s decision has shocked HP whose majority of servers were based on the Itanium processor. On June 8, HP sent a letter to Oracle Co-President and Chief Financial Officer Safra Catz charting demands to respect Oracle's obligations to HP and to Itanium.
After Oracle’s bold move towards HP’s Itanium servers, even Microsoft and Red Hat have also ended their support for Itanium.
As per the new ruling, Oracle is required to port its products to HP's Itanium-based servers without charge to HP.
Oracle, the maker of database and other corporate software, said it will appeal the decision. However, it is difficult to say when Oracle will make an appeal as Oracle has not made any official statement regarding this. So, stay tuned.
