Hackers targeting Indian banks with advanced malware variants
Added On:6/27/2012 12:13:00 PM

A shocking revelation has been made. With the latest update, hackers are now increasingly targeting Indian financial institutions with the new and innovative variants of malware. If reports are to be believed, the new variants are  SpyEye and Zeus. These new tools can siphon larger amounts of money from user’s bank accounts.

It is reportedly said that after targeting countries including Germany, Italy and United Kingdom, cyber criminals are now targeting Indian cities.

As per a recent report generated by Trend Micro, there is a whopping 187 percent rise in phishing attacks being reported on various Indian brands in May this year in comparison to the previous month. Interestingly, one in every four phishing attacks made in May have targeted the banking sector.

Report further explained that cities like Hyderabad, Nashik, New Delhi and Bangalore and even Thanjavur are amongst the highest number of phishing strikes being reported cities.

It is worth noticing; the new tools SpyEye and Zeus  could significantly increase the number of hacked accounts and dramatically escalate the amount being stolen from accounts.

Trusted aides informed our team; these new tools have used a new technique called "web injection" to generate new entry fields when victims sign in to any bank account.

Market watchers added, the latest warning for Indian banks has come when countries like Germany, Italy and UK have already been under attack of cyber criminals.

Seems, spreading of spam and malware from legitimate accounts has become a cakewalk for hackers.
