In a bid to bring social networking features to its widely used suite of business software applications, Microsoft has reportedly acquired internet startup Yammer for $1.2 billion. 

As a matter of concern, it is found, Yammer Inc. is an enterprise social network service which was launched in September 2008. It was originally launched as an enterprise micro blogging service and subsequently evolved to become a full-fledged enterprise social network. Yammer facilitates users to create private social networks so employees within the same company can keep tabs on what colleagues are working on. 

It is found, working with Yammer is quite similar to Facebook's online social network which allows friends and families to track what's happening in each other's personal lives. 

Presently, Yammer counts more than 80 percent of Fortune 500 companies as clients. 

Buying Yammer would offer a strong social networking component to Microsoft’s Office suite as it will inherit millions of users across more than 200,000 different companies, market watchers believe. 

Market watchers further added, Microsoft’s latest acquisition is representing company’s latest attempt to adapt a major shift towards more Internet-connected services and social-networking tools.
