Despite uncertainties that telecom sector is facing, Chinese equipment maker Huawei is planning to invest $2 billion over the next four years in India. If reports are to be believed, Huawei is all set to establish a new global R&D centre in the country.
It is worth noticing, Huawei accounted for $1.5 billion in revenues from India in 2011-12.
Besides the new R&D centre, Huawei is also betting big to roll out 4G LTE services in India and is intending more than 50 percent share of the contracts coming in 2012. The company has already deployed 4G LTE network for Bharti Airtel in Bangalore.
According to Cai Liqun, Chief Executive Officer at Huawei India, 2011 was a good year for Huawei as company’s revenue in India increased for about 20 percent. As a matter of concern, it is found; most of the Indian revenues were earned through Huawei’s network business driven by 3G deployment and network expansion by operators.
He further added, now, the plan is to invest $2 billion in R&D centre, manufacturing and marketing in next four years in India. For this, the company has already begun work on setting up a research and development centre in Bangalore, which is expected to house more than 5,000 professionals.
The new R&D centre is expected to become operational from June 2013.
