Indian Govt. to set up agency to scan Twitter, mails
Added On:2/28/2012 9:58:00 AM

As per a recent report, Indian government is geared up to set up an internet scanning agency which will monitor all web traffic passing through internet service providers in the country. If reports are to be believed, the new scanning agency is to be named as National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC).

As a result, all emails, tweets, status updates and even email drafts will now pass via the new scanning centre.

Sources informed that the National Cyber Coordination Centre will scan whole cyber traffic flowing at the point of entry and exit at India's international internet gateways.  The agency will issue 'actionable alerts' to government departments in case it perceives any security threat.

In response, all government departments will now talk to the Internet Service Providers such as , BSNL, MTNL, Bharti Airtel, RCOM,  and Tata Communications through NCCC for real time information and data on threats, trusted sources informed.

To the reader’s surprise, the government is planning to invest about 800 crore in the setup. Presently, government is collating manpower requirements for the new centre.

Market watchers added, the latest move comes as the government has been unable to prevent many terror attacks, in the absence of a credible internet scanning system.
