According to a latest update, all websites will switch to IPv6 format of internet addressing system very soon. If reports are to be believed, the new IPv6 format will allow for trillions of new "IP" numbers or addresses.
Presently, there are 4.3 billion IP addresses running on IPv4 format. The 'IPv4' uses 32-bit addresses. It is important to note that IPv6 will use 128-bit addresses; as a result, it will allow infinite pool of unique IP addresses.
It is worth noticing, every device on the computer network is assigned a unique internet protocol (IP) address, which is a numerical address that is its identity and forms the basis of Internet communication.
Security of data to be transfer is a major matter of concern these days. Keeping this in mind, the new format will offer enhanced security with Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) suite. It supports end-to-end security, authentication and non-repudiation which provide proof of the integrity and origin of data.
It is reportedly said that all government websites are likely to be IPv6-compatible by December this year, while for the country as a whole, the roadmap for transitioning to IPv6 is by 2020.
So, get ready to use a securer format for websites.
