Seems, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) which is a trade association of Indian Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry is losing faith. If reports are to be believed, strong voices against NASSCOM are coming from the BPO industry.
A CEO of a BPO company, who did not want to be named, has stated, instead of becoming a strong crusader for the industry, NASSCOM has become more of an event management company.
Another senior executive from BPO industry has claimed absence of any serious representation of the BPO business at domestic and global fronts has made BPOs , low-end voice players even if they are delivering cutting edge processes.
Besides biggies of BPO industry, there is also some disquiet among smaller IT companies, especially IT product companies. Both small and big IT companies have claimed, their concerns have not been adequately represented to governments. As a result, they have become louder, in an effort to deny Nasscom’s reports.
Presenting his viewpoint on discrimination between IT and BPO industry, Som Mittal, President, Nasscom has stated, both IT and BPO are equal twins. Both have generated millions of jobs in the country, and have played a pivotal role in the overall growth of the economy. However, there was always step-motherly treatment towards BPO.
But, a major question arises here, how the industry could prosper to its fullest, if the NASSCOM’s President himself believes that BPO is about calling, and calling is about low-end work.
