Seems, with the steady rise of Apple and Android, the BlackBerry maker RIM is appearing as a mere shadow of its former self. According to a latest update, BlackBerry maker Research in Motion is considering to split its business in two. If reports are to be believed, RIM is planning to separate its struggling handset manufacturing division from its messaging network.
Insiders informed our team, RIM has hired advisers to help the company examining ways to leverage the BlackBerry platform through partnerships, licensing opportunities, and strategic business model alternatives.
According to a Research in Motion spokesperson, the company believes, the best way to drive value for its stakeholders is to execute a new plan to turn the company around.
It is reportedly said the potential buyers are Amazon and Facebook.
As a matter of concern, it is found, RIM’s shares have shrunk more than 50 percent this year after an increasing competition from Apple and Google’s Android powered devices. Stats revealed, for the last quarter ending March 3rd, RIM reported a net loss of US $125 million. As far as RIM’s phone shipment is concerned, it plunged 21 percent. Recently, RIM has announced that it is expecting yet another operating loss in the quarter ending June 2.
Analysts believe, an alternative option would be to keep the company together but sell a stake to a larger technology firm.
Well! nothing can be said at this time as nothing has been by any RIM official till now. So, stay tuned.
