BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd has recently given developers a glimpse at its next-generation BlackBerry 10 powered smartphone. RIM has offered a set of software tools to create flashy apps to run on its new operating system, sources informed.
However, investors remained unimpressed with RIM’s latest offering and RIM's shares tumbled.
BlackBerry 10 is a QNX-based operating system which is intended to help RIM to fight against its major rivals Google and Apple, which have swallowed up a big portion of BlackBerry mobile device’s market with their devices. Just like Apple's iOS and Google's Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating systems, BlackBerry 10 is a common platform for smartphones and tablets.
It is reportedly said that RIM’s new CEO Thorsten Heins has unveiled prototypes of the devices which RIM is expecting to launch later this year.
Insiders informed our team that BlackBerry’s new devices can be navigated with fewer keystrokes than the legacy smartphones, relying mostly on swipe gestures and word suggestions.
Demonstrating how information from documents, emails, calendars, and address books could slide in and out from the screen's edges, Heins shared his views that RIM wanted a user paradigm that is easy and fast.
It is worth noticing, RIM's once high-flying shares dipped 70 per cent during past 12 months as it lost its market share to other rivals including Apple Inc and Google Inc's Android in recent years.
