In the wake of rupee volatility, personal computers are likely to witness a price hike very soon. The drastic dip in rupees exchange value against dollar is escalating input costs for manufacturers like HCL Infosystems, Lenovo thereby leading to the increase in cost of PCs.
It is found, PC industry depends heavily on imports for hardware components like hard drive and displays. With rupee falling gradually, imports have become costlier for the manufacturers.
Industry sources cited that it would be the sole decision of the companies whether they want to pass on the cost to consumers or keep it to themselves.
Amar Babu, Managing Director at the Indian arm of Lenovo has shared his views on the latest rupee volatility, in case the rupee continues at present level, prices could go up further. It is worth noticing, Lenovo has raised prices of their devices by 3-5 percent, last month.
Sources cited that the fluctuation in rupee value is bound to trigger the price of PCs but the increase would not be substantial.
Rupee has depreciated to 55-per-dollar mark currently.
The price review covers the entire range of PCs including- desktops, tablets, netbooks, notebooks and monitors.
