As per latest information, Ranjit Yadav, Country Head, Samsung Mobile and IT, has resigned from his post.
According to some industry insiders, Yadav might join Apple which is Samsung's closest competitor globally. It is worth noticing, Yadav's resignation has come just a week after Nokia's decision to rope in P Balaji as Vice President and Managing Director to manage its mobile phone and smart devices business in the country.
Yadav joined Samsung in 2008 from Hewlett-Packard Co. At HP, Yadav was director for regional channel/distribution sales and partner management for Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining HP Asia Pacific, he has worked with Philips Electronics, Asia Pacific since 1998, where he was Marketing Director – Televisions for Asia Pacific & MEA. He has also worked with companies like Hindustan Unilever and Computer Point India earlier on in his career.
Market experts believe, Yadav’s latest move is likely to affect Indian smartphone market where Samsung is gradually widening its reach over ace competitor Nokia. Stats revealed, in the January-March quarter 2012, Samsung accounted for over 40 percent market share in smartphones, followed by the Finnish giant Nokia with 25 percent and Research In Motion with 12 percent share.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Mr. Yadav holds a degree in Economics from the University of Delhi.
