OLED is considered as a promising technology for next-generation of display solutions. Acknowledging the latest trend, Sony Corp and Panasonic Corp are planning to join hands to develop next-generation flat-panel televisions.
Trusted aides informed, Sony and Panasonic are in conversation to jointly design next-generation low-cost OLEDs.
It is worth noticing, this is not the first time when Sony is planning to launch an OLED TV. Back in 2007, Sony pioneered the technology with the world's first OLED TV. However, Sony was not able to do good business at that time because of high price to its OLED TVs.
To the reader’s surprise, Sony, Panasonic and Sharp Corp have jointly reported net loss of more than $20 billion in the year to end-March.
Besides Sony and Panasonic, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have also recently announced their plans to sell 55-inch OLED televisions by the end of year. These are as thin as 4 millimeters, consume less power and offer sharper images.
However, nothing can be said at this stage as the talks between Sony and Panasonic are still in the preliminary stages, and there is a chance that discussions may not reach a conclusion.
