According to a latest update, Research In Motion Ltd is all set for a major restructuring beginning in the next couple of weeks. If reports are to be believed, Canadian company is planning to cut at least 2,000 jobs worldwide.
Trusted sources informed, RIM’s latest layoff is expected to sweep mainly for departments including the legal, human resources and finance along with the sales and marketing units.
Presently, RIM has about 16,500 staff globally, while it was close to 20,000 when RIM was at peak.
It is worth noticing, RIM’s shares have shrunk more than 50 percent this year after an increasing competition from Apple and Google’s Android powered devices.
As far as Indian smartphone market is concerned, BlackBerry smartphones are at the third place with market share of 15 percent, trailing behind Nokia's which grabbed nearly 35 percent and Samsung’s 40 percent market share.
However, any spokesperson from RIM has declined to comment on the latest layoff.
