Telecom service provider Uninor is reportedly scaling down operations in four circles in India. According to latest chunk of information, Uninor is also planning to lay off 2,000 employees from four significant circles including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Orissa.
However, the company has adopted a unique human resource model, according to which, Uninor is inviting its competitors to come and hire from its retrenched staff.
It is reportedly said that a help desk will also be set up within Uninor to facilitate the process.
According to Sigve Brekke, Managing Director at Uninor, the latest move by Uninor is affecting around 2,000 people, out of which 400 are direct employees. However, the company has appointed an outsourcing agency to help them (retrenched employees) finding employment outside. Uninor is also in touch with the HR departments of its competitors and all have expressed interest.
Presently, there are total 17,500 employees in Uninor. It is present in 21 circles across the country, out which it is strong in 13 circles.
Analysts believe, the decision has come ahead Uninor’s preparations for the upcoming 2G spectrum auctions in India. Uninor will most probably reallocate resources to better-performing zones by trimming its workforce in the four zones including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Orissa.
