ZTE, Huawei intending robust profits via budget handsets in 2012

While other smartphone makers like Nokia and BlackBerry are struggling for survival, seems the power in the flourishing smartphone industry has started to move to China. In china agile manufacturers are coming out with smartphones at cheaper prices.

Sources informed, Chinese vendors like Huawei TechnologiesCo Ltd and ZTE Corp are set to grab more market share globally in 2012. The two vendors combined sold 35 million smartphones in 2011, which is nearly 7 percent of the total global market. The smartphone sale is likely to rise to 90 million by 2012 end, doubling their market share to 14 percent.

Huawei alone is aiming to sell more than 60 million smartphones this year, a three-fold increase from 2011. It is reportedly said that the company is geared up to sell products at prices nearly 15-20 percent lower than the other smartphones available in the market.

As far as ZTE is concerned, it is intending operator-partnerships to help it to double company’s smartphone sales to 30 million handsets this year.

It is worth noticing that Huawei and ZTE are among the world's largest device makers which have expanded their reach to handsets and the tablet PC business and are now selling smartphones running on Google's Android operating system.  Interestingly, Huawei and ZTE unveiled their top-of-the-range models Ascend and Era, with technologies comparable to any of the top Android models at the Mobile World Congress 2012.

Market watchers quote, seems basic feature phones are churning out high end smartphone market, a sector where growth is strong and profit margins are bigger.
