IBM has announced the launch of its Airport Solutions Lab in New Delhi, the first-of-its-kind center in the Asia Pacific region. Co-located with IBM’s Research and India Industry Solutions labs, the Airport Solutions Lab will be a center to showcase IBM’s novel technology innovations and solutions for airports and airlines. The demand for air travel continues to expand globally, with an estimated 7 billion passenger trips by 2020, from 2.2 billion trips in 2009. With rising capacity demands, airports are also facing challenges in providing enhanced customer services, reducing costs, and increasing revenue. Airports therefore need smarter solutions to revitalize their processes and ensure better business growth. The Airport Solutions Lab will host technical and subject matter experts who will help customers witness and understand the various airport solutions that are offered by IBM. The lab will enable customers to have access to solutions on a wide range of areas such energy management, asset management, space management, airport operations management and security management, among others. As a regional hub, the lab will cater to airports across the entire Asia Pacific region. IBM is a leading provider of airport systems and services and works closely with airports across the world. In India IBM is working with several airports to help them build sophisticated IT environments, improve public services through greater customer insights, and enhance operational efficiency. Select IBM Solutions for Airports • Airport Operations Management Solution: Resource management system, which helps manage the real-time flight and airport capacity management function, is at the heart of airport operation. IBM has pioneered to setup a state-of-the-art multi airport operations management solution, which would help clients who own or manage multiple airports to monitor and manage multiple airports from a single location. • Smart Airport Enabler: Airports have substantial complexity from a process and integration perspective. The absence of integration would make it challenging for airports to handle air traffic effectively during peak hours. IBM’s solution leverages Service Oriented Architecture, along with WebSphere integration stacks and provides airport specific content for greater efficiency. • Intelligent Operations Center (IOC): The need for coordinated action in airports is of utmost importance for safety and operational efficiency. Airports tend to have multiple operation control centers and it is a challenging task to ensure that all the users in these centers have a common view of the situation and are assisted in taking informed decisions. IOC ensures collaboration across various centers, provides an integrated view of the entire operation, and helps take preventive action to any potential issues. • IBM Intelligent Building Management System (IIBMS): Considering airports are sharply focused on reducing operational costs and enhancing their efficiency, energy and space management are areas which can provide substantial leverage. IIBMS uses sophisticated analytics on data derived from building management systems and helps make airport operations smarter. ITVoir NewsDesk |
