Datawind has developed a patented internet delivery technology which reduces bandwidth consumption up to 30x allowing users of mobile devices to surf the web on existing networks worldwide without the requirement of new expenditure on infrastructure. Mr. Tuli further added that Given our wholesale operator relationships worldwide, Datawind can also deliver this web connection to users for free on their devices, currently limited to 30 hours per month for 12 months in some markets with very low cost annual renewals. If there were a way to bridge the digital divide while simultaneously delivering a cost effective educational tool, it would greatly impact billions of people around the globe.
Datawind's tablets deliver all the major functionality of the basic PC in a portable handheld device capable of accepting USB pen drives and connecting to the web on either a Wi Fi or mobile phone signal.
Since the launch of Aakash / Ubislate tablet in India, there has been a worldwide explosion of interest in our solution. Datawind has received over 3 Million individual user pre-orders as well as significant interest from corporations and governments for our tablets, we’ve been named UK’s Most Innovative Mobile Company, been recognized as a finalist in the award for Innovation in Education at the Mobile World Congress and received coverage at the World Economic Forum in Davos stated by Mr. Tuli.
There is global recognition that the internet can help empower better quality education and level the playing field between the rich and poor. Low cost devices and the ability to deliver the internet on existing GPRS infrastructure, are the necessary pre-requisites for bringing the next billion people on the internet.
