Elite watch Maker Company, Tag Heuer is reportedly planning to launch a modular smartwatch as soon as next month. As per a report by Android Central website, the organization will launch its ‘Tag Connected Modular’ smartwatch on March 14.
The ‘Tag Connected Modular’ is claimed to be completely customizable. Users will be able to swap the watch straps and customize the lugs as well. The report further goes on to say that users will be able to swap the timepiece itself. The swappable modules might incorporate an automatic mechanical watch module or the standard Android Wear 2.0 running smartwatch module.
It is also assumed that such design would also bring a higher price tag. Back in 2015, Tag Heuer launched its Connected luxury smartwatch at $1,500 in the US. In India, the base price of the smartwatch is Rs 1,25,000.
As a refresher, Tag Heuer Connected comes with a 1.5-inch circular touch-screen LCD display of 360×360 pixel resolution and 240ppi pixel density. It is backed by a 410mAh battery and comes in rubber, leather and metal strap options. The smartwatch is IP67 rated, which makes it splash-proof.
Powering the Tag Heuer Connected is an Intel dual-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, paired with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Compatible with iOS and Android, the smartwatch runs Android Wear and connects via Bluetooth.
Earlier this month, Google’s Android Wear 2.0 OS made its debut with two new LG smartwatches — LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style. LG Watch Style comes in Silver, Rose Gold and Titanium colour options and is priced at $249 (Rs 16,690), whereas the LG Watch Sport bears a price tag of $349 (Rs 23,390).
