Taxi hailing company Uber is planning to reveal a new app – UberEATS, in India. Its name defines it all, the application allows its users to order food from the convenience of their smartphones.
Uber broke the news of launching UberEATS to India via its official blog today. The blog post reads that the app will use the same technology as its essential ride-hailing app.
Restaurants and food chains will partner with Uber for its food delivery services in India.
“I am incredibly excited about bringing UberEATS to India. This is a significant investment, it spans multiple cities and regions, and it has the potential to change the food industry – with the push of a button – in one of the most vibrant food cultures in the world.” said Asia Pacific head of UberEATS, Allen Penn.
Since India already has many food ordering apps available, UberEATS will be facing a tough competition from the established rivals like Zomato and Swiggy.
It was recently reported that Uber is looking to grow its operations in India and open a new centre.
The centre, which is probably to come up in Bengaluru, will support Uber’s operations in South Asia since the organization is developing India as a regional hub. The new centre will be Uber’s third centre in India, which is among its top three markets in the world.
India has already accounted $1 billion of investment from Uber. During his recent visit to the country, CEO Travis Kalanick said that the firm would double its pledged investment if it sees more than five times the return.
India is not the only country that Uber is concentrating on. The firm has also started its operations in countries like Sri Lanka, Dhaka and Bangladesh.
